Congratulations to Alexia Newsome for being Middle Georgia All-Stars’ first All-Star of the month! Alexia is currently a junior at Jones County High School and cheers for the Middle Georgia All Stars Comets. When deciding on who should be our first ever All-Star of the Month, it was Alexia’s resilient attitude and desire to get back into the game made her the front runner.
Alexia has been plagued with injuries, as well as health problems this year. When asked why she keeps pushing through, she simply replied, “I do it for my team! My team needs me and I want to be a good example for other cheerleaders. I want them to know that just because you are hurt you don’t give up. You are strong and you should push through it.”
Alexia credits her Nana saying she is the most influential person in her life. “She has been my cheerleader. When I get hurt she tells me to suck it up and get back out there. She never babies me and never lets me give up.”
Alexia has set her goals to become a college cheerleader and you can find her every week in the gym working on her full twist. Alexia has narrowed down her choices to UGA, Mercer, and Georgia College, where she would like to get a degree in Sports Physiology.
Alexia does not let others get to her. When people tell her she can’t do something she uses it as motivation to prove them wrong. While Alexia follows the top cheerleaders in the country and what some might call “cheerleberties,” you will not see her idolizing them. What you will see is her using them as motivation to push herself to get to the next level. When asked, what advise she would give younger athletes, she followed up with this quote. “Shoot for the moon because even if you miss you will land amongst the stars.” While Alexia lives by this quote, she was very quick to add; “I WILL get to get to the moon, I’m not going to land on the stars.” She wants others to realize their full potential. She said, if they just keep pushing and never give up, they can achieve anything that they put their mind to.
Alexia was very humbled and shocked when she was chosen as MGA’s All-Star of the Month. She says “it shows me that all my hard work has paid off.”
There is no doubt in my mind we will see Alexia on the sideline cheering at a college game in the future. We want to take the time to say congratulations to Alexia Newsome for her hardwork, teamwork, and dedication. She truly is a role model for both current and future Middle Georgia All-Stars family members.
