MGA is middle Georgia’s most prestigious training center in the Middle Georgia area.  With it’s alumni cheering at universities like Clemson, Florida State, Alabama, Kentucky, Columbus State, Georgia Southern, West Georgia, Georgia Tech, and UGA, it is clear where the elite go to train. Athletes who are serious about being the best, want to learn proper progressions, and want to learn what it takes to get to the next level train at MGA.  MGA’s half year program is perfect for the athlete that wants to improve their skills in the off season, stay in shape, have dreams of becoming a GHSA state champion, and are excited and ready to be motivated and inspired by the area’s top coaches and competitive program! 

Why Should My Child do a ½ Year Program

Regardless if your child cheers at a single A school or a 6A school, the teams that are winning state have one thing in common. That one thing is the majority of their athletes train at quality programs year-round or in the off season. Kids who stay involved year-round in are more likely to improve on their skills, prevent mental blocks, develop a strong self esteem, and more importantly stay out of trouble. A study of nearly 12,000 middle and high school students performed by Gordon-Larsen, an assistant professor of nutrition at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, showed that “students who were physically active were less likely than their couch-potato peers to smoke, drink, use drugs, or …..”  To read more about the benefits of keeping your child active in sports such as cheerleading, click here.

Requirements

MGA’s teaching philosophy is to focus on a child’s strengths to help improve their weaknesses. It is this same philosophy that allows MGA to place kids on teams where they are going to have fun, thrive, improve their strength as a cheerleader, and turning their weaknesses into an asset that a high school coach or college coach would love to have on their team.  With that being said, MGA is looking for athletes with Middle School and High School experience.

Team Placement

MGA is looking to fill its rosters for two teams.  The first team will be for athletes with back handsprings and lower, middle school and/or high school stunting experience is preferred, must be willing to work hard, and have a strong desire to learn new techniques to improve their cheerleading and tumbling skills.

The second team is for athletes with round off handspring tuck or higher, middle school and high school stunting experience is a must, should have a strong work ethic and a desire to work with the area’s best athletes, and be willing to learn from the area’s top coaches. 

Practice Requirements

Both teams will practice on Sundays beginning November 3rd and will only practice 1 day a week until high school state is over. Starting December 1st, both teams will practice one day during the week (either Tuesday or Wednesday) and the second practice on Sunday.  Times will be released at the informational meeting.

Competitions

MGA’s ½ year program is scheduled to compete at 2 local one-day competitions.  The first event will be in March at the Macon Centreplex, and the second competition will be held in April at 6 flags over Georgia.  While our schedule is not 100% set in stone, our goal is to keep costs down by competing at one day events. This will prevent parents from incurring hotel and overnight travel costs, as well as give the athletes a life outside of cheer.

Informational Meeting

MGA is holding an informational meeting on October 16th at 7pm for any athlete who is ready to take their training to the next level.  This informational meeting will cover the practice days and times, the expectations of all MGA athletes, who the coaches will be, competition days and times, cost of the program, and answer any questions you might have.
