We are so excited that you have decided to join the MGA family for the 2020-2021 season! The purpose of this email is to help inform you of MGA’s skill evaluation process. Please take just a few minutes to read over today’s email to make sure you have the information needed regarding MGA’s skill evaluation process. Friday, we will send out an email regarding the different teams, the vision for the novice, regional, and elite level teams, and when teams will be released. Monday, we will send out our final email regarding teams, skill levels required for each level, what to wear for clinic days, and what to wear for skill evaluations.
Clinic Date and Times
This year’s skill evaluation will be broken up into 2 separate days. Day one is what we refer to as Stunt clinic day and day two is your child’s evaluation day. At the stunt clinic, your athlete will decide which stunt position he/she is trying out for and will be placed in stunt groups based off of that position. The kids will work on basic level appropriate stunts, based on the level team they are trying to achieve. Day two will be your child’s skill evaluation day and you will sign up for a 30 minute time slot from 5:00-8:00 that works best for your schedule. He/she will perform the routine that you received via email in front of the staff. If you have not received a link to this video simply click here to download the tryout dance. To make sure the clinics run as smoothly as possible, athletes with level 1 and 2 tumblings (No tumbling, back walkover and back handsprings) come to the stunt clinic on April 26th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and your evaluation day is May 5th from 5:00-8:00 pm. athletes with level 3-6 tumbling skills (Round off handspring tuck or higher) will come on May 3rd from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm for the stunt clinic, and May 4th from 5:00-8:00 pm for the evaluation day. The day that you attend the clinic has no bearing on which level team you will be placed on. Please read Monday’s email regarding team placements.
Tryout Day and Times
During registration, your child will sign up for a 30-minute window for their skill evaluation day. Times will start as early as 5:00 pm and will conclude by 8:00 pm. Following warm-ups, your child will show us their routine which will have jumps, standing tumbling pass, their best running tumbling pass, and their dance choreographed into the routine. On Friday, April 24th, we will send out an email of the list of skills required for each level team.
Registration for Tryouts
Registration for tryouts will begin one hour prior to your child’s stunt clinic. Your child will need to make sure their paperwork is turned in, get their standing reach measured, take a headshot, and get them signed up for a skill evaluation time. We will be happy to answer any questions you might have at this point.
What do I do if I can’t make my official skill evaluation?
For anyone who has a conflict with our skill evaluation days, there are 2 options to pick from.
Option 1: Set up a private skill evaluation prior to May 4th.
Option 2: Come to a makeup skill evaluation on, May 12th, 13th or 14th. Please understand, we place teams based on who shows up for tryouts, this means if a team is full and you pick option 2 you will be placed on whichever team has openings.
I hope this has given you the information needed regarding MGA’s 2020-2021 skill evaluations. Make sure to keep an eye on your email for email number two titled MGA’s Different Teams and What they Mean.
